Z 17 Diether von Roeder (1938)

After a short intervention in the Baltic Sea at the outbreak of the war, the Z17 Diether von Roeder
was used to lay mine fields in the North Sea (Westwall) in September 1939, followed by one mine laying operation off the British coast until February 1940. During in Operation Weserübung the Z17 Diether von Roeder
was part of the Kriegsschiffgruppe 1 heading for Narvik. where it was heavily damaged during a battle with British destroyers on 10.04.1940 in Narvik. The destroyer was sunk during a the second destroyer battle on 13.04.1940 while anchoring in Narvik harbor.
