Tamiya (1:20) Benetton Ford B192

Michael Schumachers Formula 1 car in 1992

   History   Scale Model

My first (and only) try to build a Formula 1 car. The excellent Tamiya kit suggested to paint the car in yellow and use the included decals for the green stripes on the car, but as I had my doubts about this decal solution, so I decided to paint them instead. In the end it worked better than I expected (although still far from perfect), and the car got pretty well.

This is the Formula 1 car was driven by Michael Schumacher in the 1992 season. It was first used by the Benetton Formula Racing Team during the 4th race in 1992 at the Spanish Grand Prix. Powered by the Ford HB V-8 cylinder engine, the car had not so much engine power than the V10 or V12 cylinder engines of the Williams, McLaren or Ferrari.

Because the light weight, compact design and drivability of the engine, the two drivers, Michael Schumacher and Martin Brundle were able to score points in every of the 16 races, including Schumachers first win at then Belgian Grand Prix. The team finished third for the constructor's title in this Grand Prix season.
