History
The former freighter Pungo
was used as auxiliary ship H.D.10
since 01.11.1915. In December of the same year, it was converted into an auxiliary cruiser - the most successful of its kind. In the following 1 1/2 years it made two raids into the Atlantic, sinking or capturing a total of 38 ships. Based on this success, only modified freighters were used as auxiliary cruisers in World War II. Between its two Atlantic raids the ship was used for mine laying operations in the North Sea. In 1920 it was taken over by the British as Greenbrier
. Sold back by Germany in 1933, it served as transport Oldenburg
until 07.04.1945 when it was sunk in Norway after a British air attack.
