History

The British build Vasilefs Georgios was damaged during the invasion of Greece and captured in May 1941. After repairs the ship was commissioned by the Kriegsmarine on 21.03.1942. Between June 1942 and April 1943, the now named Hermes , was used for convoy duties in the Aegean Sea. Form April 1943 on the ship was used to escort supply ships to North Africa, sinking the British submarine Splendid on April 21st. During the battle of Tunis ten days later, the Hermes was heavily damaged by air attacks and the was scuttled on 07.05.1943.
