History
The former transport Goldenfels
was the first auxiliary cruiser commissioned by the Kriegsmarine. From March 1940 on, the ship operated in the Atlantic, Indian Ocean and the Pacific. On 22.11.1941 it was resupplying the U-boat U126
when it was detected by the British cruiser Devonshire. After 622 days of operation - in which 22 ships with 145697 t were sunk - the Atlantis
was then scuttles by its own crew which was rescued by U-boats and returned to France. |
