16.08.1938:   Artillery drills in the Baltic Sea with the commander of the Kriegsmarine  Raeder on board.
22.08.1938:   Paricipation in the fleet parade during the launch of the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen .

06-23.10.1938:  Voyage to Spain and Marokko together with Panzerschiff Admiral Graf Spee and the destroyers Paul Jakobi and Theodor Riedel .

03-05.10.1939:   Merchant warfare in the North Sea together with the destroyers Friedrich Ihn , Erich Steinbrinck and the torpedo boats Greif , Falke and Albatros .

09-10.02.1940:   Together with the destroyers  Wilhlem Heidkamp and Theodor Riedel, the Hermann Schoemann   supports mine laying operations of the destroyers Friedrich Eckold , Richard Beitzen , Max Schultz , Bruno Heinemann , Wilhlem Zenker and Erich Koellner .
02.03.1940:   During an operation in the German Beight, the destroyer has to return to Wilhlemshaven because of engine problems.
09.05.1940:   Together with the destroyers Bruno Heinemann and Richard Beitzen , the torpedo boat Greif and 3 S-boats, the Hermann Schoemann escorts the mine layers Corba , Kaiser , Roland and Preussen while laying the mine field 16. The operation is cancelled when aircraft detected British destroyers nearby.
17-18.05.1940:   Mine operation in the North Sea together with the destroyers Bruno Heinemann and Richard Beitzen .
19-20.05.1940:   Mine operation in the North Sea together with the destroyers Bruno Heinemann and Richard Beitzen .
04-10.06.1940:   Participation in "Operation Juno". Together with the destroyers Hans Lody , Erich Steinbrinck and Karl Galster and the torpedo boats Falke and Jaguar , the Hermann Schoemann escorts the battleships Scharnhorst , Gneisenau and the cruiser Admiral Hipper .
08.06.1940:   Hermann Schoemann sinks the tanker Oilpioneer which was damaged by artillery fire of the cruiser Admiral Hipper . The tanker sinks after a torpedo hit, 11 crew memebers are rescued.
20-23.06.1940:   Together with the destroyers Hans Lody , Erich Steinbrinck and the torpedo boats Greif and Kondor , the  Hermann Schoemann escorts the bomb damaged Scharnhorst from Drontheim to Kiel.

04-11.07.1941:   The 6th destroyer flotilla, consiting of the destroyers Friedrich Eckold , Karl Galster , Herman Schoemann , Richard Beitzen and Hans Lody are transferred to Kirkenes.
12-16.07.1941:   Operations of the 6th destroyer flotilla near hte North Cape and Kola: Hans Lody , Karl Galster , Hermann Schoemann , Friedrich Eckold and Richard Beitzen sink the Russian patrol boats Passat and Molotow .
22-24.07.1941:   The 6th destroyer flotilla, consiting of the destroyers Friedrich Eckold , Karl Galster , Herman Schoemann , and Richard Beitzen operate in the Arctic Sea and sink the Russian patrol boat Meridian and one float plane.
29-30.07.1941:   Hans Lody , Hermann Schoemann , Friedrich Eckold and Richard Beitzen operate against th Kaja- and Jugor-Street. The operation is aborted when a British task group consisting of aircraft carriers, cruisers and destroyers is reported.
13.08.1941:   Karl Galster and Hermann Schoemann escort a transport from Kirkenes to Honnigsvaag.
15-16.08.1941:   Karl Galster and Hermann Schoemann escort a convoy from Tromsö to Kirkenes.

27-31.08.1941:   Escorted by the torpedo boats T2 and T11 , Hermann Schoemann returns to Germany.
24.01.1942:   After the repairs, the destroyer is sent to France.
24-26.01.1942:   Transfer of Richard Beitzen , Bruno Heinemann, Paul Jakobi  and Herman Schoemann to Le Havre.   Bruno Heinemann is lost during the tranfer because of two mine hits. Herman Schoemann has to make a stop in Vlissingen because of bad weather.
02-06.02.1942:   Z25 and T18 are sent to Holland. Together with Heinrich Schoemann they continue to Brest.
11-13.02.1942:   Operation Cerberus: Herman Schoemann escorts the battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and the cruiser Prinz Eugen during the Channel dash.
12-13.02.1942:   Operation "Cerberus": On board of Z29 , the "Füher der Zerstöer" and the destroyers Richard Beitzen , Paul Jakobi , Hermann Schoemann , Friedrich Ihn, Z25 and the torpedo boats T2T4 , T4 , T11 , T13 , T15 , T16 , T17 Seeadler , Kondor , Jaguar , Falke and iescort the battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen through the Channel from Brest ot Germany. The destroyer engages 4 British MTB. The ship escorts the Scharnhorst , damaged by two mine hits, to Wilhelmshaven.
21-23.02.1942:   Richard Beitzen , Paul Jacobi , Hermann Schoemann , Friedrich Ihn , Z25 and the torpedo boat Jaguar escort the heavy cruisers Prinz Eugen and Admiral Scheer on their way to Bergen.
23.02.1942:   Escort of heavy cruiers Prinz Eugen together with Z25 . After Prinz Eugen is hit by a torpedo of the British submarine Trident , return to Bergen. Additional escrot is given by T5 and T12 .
23-24.02.1942:   Transfer of the 5th destroyer flotilla consiting of Richard Beitzen , Paul Jacobi , Hermann Schoemann , Friedrich Ihn and Z25 to Trondheim.
06-10.03.1942:   Arctic Sea operation with battleship Tirpitz : Friedrich Ihn , Paul Jacobi , Hermann Schoemann , Z25 , T5 and T12 are used as escorts.
12-13.03.1942:   Friedrich Ihn , Hermann Schoemann , Z25 , T5 and T12 escort the battleship Tirpitz during its transfer from the Bogenbucht to Trondheim.
07-09.04.1942:   Hermann Schoemann is relocated to Kirkenes
11-15.04.1942:   Unsuccessfull attempt of Hermann Schoemman , Z24 and Z25 to attack the convoy PQ14.
01-02.05.1942:   Together with Z24 and Z25 operation against convoy PQ15. Several engagements with the British convoy escorts.
02.05.1942:   The three destroyers are ordered to attack the British cruiser Edinburgh , which was damaged by torpedos of U456 . At 06:17, the cruiser is detected and attacked with torpedos. At 0:636, Hermann Schoemann is hit, disabling both turbines.  Z24 and Z25 were able to attack and sink the Edinburgh and damaging one of its escort destroyers. Since the Hermann Schoemann could not be towed back its base, the ship is scuttled by two depth charges at 08:30. All but 8 crew members could be saved.
