History

The ferry Rügen was only used for some very few mine laying operation in the Baltic Sea. In July 1918 it was used as a floating
barrack for the U-boat school. In 1919 it was returned to its civilian duty as a Seebäderschiff. During World War II it was used as
an ambulance ship, first in the North Sea, from 1942 on in the Baltic Sea. Taken over by the Soviet Union in 1946 it was renamed
Ivan Susanin and used until 1960
