Z28
was used in the Baltic Sea and at Jutland before April 1942 when the ship was transferred to Norway. After some operation - including against the convoy PQ17 - the ship returned to Germany for repairs in November 1942. In March 1943 the ship escorted the Scharnhorst
back to Norway and was damaged by a bomb hit in Trondheim in July 1943. After repairs it was attached to the 6th destroyer flotilla in the Baltic Sea at the end of 1943, where it was used for shore bombardments mining operations and escort missions for the CA Prinz Eugen
. On 24.10.1944, Z28
was hit by eight bombs dropped by Soviet aircraft, causing repairs until February 1945. The ship was finally sunk by British bombers on 06.03.1945 in the Baltic Sea near Saßnitz in shallow water. Wreck broken down later.
