The 15 torpedoboats of the Ariete
class were the largest class of ships captured by the Kriegsmarine after the Italian surrender in September 1943. None of those ships were already completed at this time and after completion all were part of the 10th TFlottila, and used for mine laying, escort duty and coastal defense.
The
was captured by Germans in good condition of fitting out, it was completed, renamed to TA38 and commissioned on 12.02.1944. During operation "Odysseus" it went from Triest to Pireo (Greece) and with others captured units it formed the 9.Torpedobootsflottille, sinking the British boat ML1227
on 05.10.1944. The torpedo boat was blown up by its own crew near Volo on 13.10.1944 after being badly damaged by air attacks.
