History

The French cable layer Ampére was used as an auxiliary cruiser X81 by the French navy after the outbreak of World War II. Captured by Germany in November 1942. Planned to use it as an antiaircraft corvette, the now named SG24 was sunk in Marseilles in August 1944 while still being rebuild.
