History
Those old Italian destroyers wase captured on 09.09. 1943 in Greece. After some slight modifications - one 10,2 gun removed and the addition of more antiaircraft guns, it was attached to the 9th torpedo boat division operating in the Aegean sea. TA17
(former San Martino
) was commissioned on 28.10.1943. On 18.07.1944 the ship was badly damaged by explosives laid by British commando units while anchoring in the Beight of Portolago. Eleven days after this, it was able to sail to the Naval shipyard in Salamis with own power, where is was again damaged by air raid on 18.09 and 12.10.1944. It never got operational again.
